The Department of Radiology and Imaging at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, Georgia's premier health sciences university is recruiting a full-time faculty member at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, as a Breast Imager. This is a great opportunity to join a department in the midst of expansion, including growing our Georgia Cancer Center and breaking ground on our 2nd hospital site (in Columbia County). The successful candidate will have an interest in teaching medical students as well as radiology residents. Responsibilities will include providing a full range of breast imaging services, including digital mammography, tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, MRI, and image-guided procedure, as well as participation in multidisciplinary breast conferences. Faculty are also encouraged to engage in clinical research and quality improvement projects. This position offers a balanced mix of clinical service, teaching, and academic opportunities in a busy tertiary and quaternary care center with ACGME-accredited residency programs. Academic time is provided, and new research initiatives are fully supported. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

Clinical Service / Patient Care - 25%

  • Interpret screening and diagnostic mammograms, including 2D and tomosynthesis.
  • Read breast ultrasounds (diagnostic) and perform / interpret those studies.
  • Interpret breast MRI. Protocol, interpret, follow up.
  • Perform image-guided procedures: biopsies (ultrasound-guided, stereotactic, MRI-guided), needle localizations, possibly wire/localization or seed placement.
  • Participate (or lead) in multidisciplinary breast cancer clinic / tumor board with surgical oncology, medical oncology, pathology.
  • Provide consultation in reading room / with technologists / with clinicians regarding breast imaging findings, quality, follow-ups.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards specific to breast imaging and imaging safety.

Teaching & Education - 25%

  • Teach medical students, radiology residents, and breast imaging fellows: supervising interpretation, guiding procedural skills.
  • Deliver didactic lectures, case conferences, journal clubs in breast imaging topics.
  • Participate in the development of the breast imaging curriculum for the fellowship and residency program.
  • Mentor trainees in research projects relating to breast imaging.
  • Provide feedback / evaluation of trainees performance.

Research / Scholarly Activity - 25%

  • Participate in or lead research projects in breast imaging
  • Publish work in peer-reviewed journals and present at national meetings.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects related to breast imaging

Service / Administrative - 25%

  • Serve on departmental committees relevant to breast imaging and institutional committees relating to cancer programs, screening initiatives, etc.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams: tumor boards, screening programs.
  • Standardize protocols, ensure consistency across imaging centers and sites, ensure image quality and diagnostic consistency.
  • Participate in peer review / double reading / QA of breast imaging studies.
  • Keep up with accreditation requirements, audits, regulatory inspections.

Required Qualifications

MD, DO, or equivalent. Fellowship training in breast imagining. Board certification or eligibility. Eligibility for medical licensure in Georgia.

Instructor- A medical professional in training who holds a medical degree and has completed residency training who will contribute to teaching, student support, and the clinical mission of the institution.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Instructor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
