Purpose:

OBU is seeking applicants for 2, full time 12-month core faculty appointments in their new hybrid Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program. Faculty rank is commensurate with experience. This 2-year accelerated OTD program combines online and on-campus teaching, which allows faculty to perform work remotely with the requirement to come to the OBU campus in Shawnee, OK for on-campus activities several times per year. The start date for these positions is Summer/Fall 2025. Positions will remain open until they are filled. Come join us and work with a purpose, where faith is the heart of education.

Essential Functions:

A faculty appointment includes administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. The faculty member must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and ability or be able to explain and demonstrate that the faculty member can perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skill and ability.

  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the Core Values of the Occupational Therapy Profession.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and contemporary skill expertise in the areas of assigned teaching.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and professionally both in written and orally, both online and in-person.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including students, administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program.
  • Advisement of students in the occupational therapy program.

Teaching and Education Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses as agreed upon with the OTD Program Director.
  • Develop and annually review course syllabus, update appropriately.
  • Select appropriate instructional methods.
  • Develop and update course materials with integration of online resources.

Service Responsibilities:

  • Participate in institutional and professional service opportunities in accordance with accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Participate in community and church service opportunities.

Scholarship Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and disseminate research/scholarship activities in accordance with accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures to include Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Mentor occupational therapy student research and capstone projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree from an accredited program (OTD, EdD, PhD, ScD, etc.)
  • Occupational therapy degree (MOT, MSOT, etc.) from an ACOTE accredited program
  • Current, valid non-restricted occupational therapy license
  • Oklahoma (OK) state occupational therapy license or eligibility for licensure in OK
  • A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience as an occupational therapy practitioner
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in occupational therapy or similar program in higher education
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, etc.) as well as Zoom and other online meeting platforms
  • Experience with online learning management software (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in a hybrid format
  • Experience in pediatrics, neurological populations, mental health, or hand/upper extremity therapy
  • Demonstrate the use of innovative teaching strategies
  • Advanced Certifications in the field of practice
  • Excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online instructional format
  • Team-oriented and willing to collaborate and share instructional methods and activates to enhance quality of online/hybrid education
  • Appreciation of evidence-based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom and building a student-centered community within the online classroom
  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in occupational therapy clinical education.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of occupational therapy.
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be an active member of a local evangelical church.
  • Evangelical is a broad term referring to a segment within Christianity which maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
