Open Rank Tenure or Clinical Faculty - Large Animal and Ambulatory Services

Clemson University: Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine

Location: 137 Lehotsky

Open Date: Aug 01, 2025

The new Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to help establish the new Clemson CVM Large Animal and Ambulatory Service. The primary responsibilities of this position are focused on clinical service, teaching and research. Academic rank would be commensurate with experience.

Part of the mission of the Clemson CVM is to promote animal and human health in the state of SC through the education of the next generation of veterinary clinicians and scientists with an emphasis on large animals (including cattle, sheep, goats, and horses), general practice and population medicine. The position is designed for an individual committed to this mission by providing large animal clinical service, teaching, and research in both the clinical and pre-clinical curriculum of the developing Clemson DVM program. This individual will work with students, other faculty, staff and large animal clients in local communities.

To support this endeavor, the service will feature several fully equipped trucks and be based out of a state-of-the-art ambulatory services building on the new Clemson CVM Campus, enabling faculty members to deliver an exceptional client and patient experience while educating students. Clinical assignments including after-hours emergency duty will be based on clinical needs and are shared by the faculty team. Individual and collaborative research is encouraged.

Additional information about the DVM program is here: https://www.clemson.edu/veterinary-medicine/index.html

Overview of Clemson and the CVM

Located in South Carolina's beautiful and fast-growing Upstate, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and ranks among the country's top 50 national public universities in the U.S. News & World Report. The University has nearly 23,400 students (including nearly 18,600 undergraduates) who can select from 80 undergraduate and 110 graduate degree programs. Clemson employs over 1,150 full-time faculty and has an annual budget expenditure of over $900M. Clemson University maintains its status as an R1 Carnegie Research Institution while maintaining a strong focus on undergraduate education.

The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association-Council on Education to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval). The CVM plans to utilize a partial distributive model of clinical training for students. Its brand-new state of the art campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.

In 2023, the Board of Trustees approved Clemson Elevate, the university's new strategic plan. Clemson Elevate is built on 3 pillars: deliver the #1 student experience, double research by 2035, and transform lives statewide and beyond. The CVM was named as a strategic priority for the university, demonstrating the importance of the new college to the future of the university and the state. We are excited to attract a team of top talent as we build the new college.
