Position Summary
As a member of the Orientation staff, the Orientation Program Assistant assists in providing a welcoming, inclusive experience for our new students and families that attend our Orientation program. The Orientation Program Assistant plays a vital role in meeting the programmatic needs of our Orientation program, especially evening social programming.
This position is a 9-week obligation: June 1 – July 29.

Major Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor all evening social programs for students attending Orientation
- Develop, collaborate with the Orientation Assistant Supervisor, and implement training for Orientation Assistant, especially evening skits
- Supervise students staying in the Orientation residence halls
- Supervise students during evening social activities
- Direct the decoration of residence halls and other program buildings to create a welcoming environment for new students and families
- Ensure directional signs are in place to help with program flow within buildings and across campus
- Staff the orientation information desk, as needed
- Serve as a first-line member of a professional response team for students, families, faculty and staff during the Orientation program
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to Coordinator of Transition Programs
Required Qualifications
- Experience with SUNY Cortland’s Orientation program
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- customer service experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Cortland’s Orientation program
- Organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
