Part-Time Faculty: REL 100 Religion, Race, and Social Justice (Fall 2025)

The Department of Religion at Syracuse University seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach REL 100 Religion, Race, and Social Justice, a three-credit course during the Fall semester of 2025. This is an in-person course meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-10:50am. Course meetings run from August 26 to December 9. Enrollment for the course is expected to be between 75-85 students.

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

Qualifications

• PhD in Religion or relevant related fields is strongly preferred; ABD candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Developing an original course syllabus.
• Ordering appropriate books and materials in advance of the class date.
• Preparing lectures, projects and other student assignments.
• Maintaining at least 2 office hours per week (in-person or virtual).
• Responding to email messages from students and the department chair in a timely manner.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university guidelines. Instructor will have the assistance of two graduate student teaching assistants in the grading of student work.
• Coordinating duties for two teaching assistants and following all department guidelines for reasonable assignment of TA duties.
• Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should make your best effort to designate a substitute instructor. In any case of absence, the department chair must be notified.
