Religion Lecturer

Position Summary

The Department of Philosophy, Anthropology, and Religion at Central Michigan University invites applications for a one-year, full-time Lecturer I position in Religion to begin August 2025. The successful candidate will teach four sections per semester (4/4). This position has the possibility of renewal, subject to favorable evaluation and annual enrollment projections.

The successful candidate will teach lower division courses including REL 102 The Meaning of Life and possibly REL 140 Religion, Race and Discrimination in America. The primary teaching responsibilities for this position are in the lower division courses. CMU is seeking a candidate also prepared to teach an upper division course in the Buddhist Tradition. Sections will be in-person, taught on campus in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in the academic study of Religion or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate religion courses.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., or in advanced ABD status, in the academic study of Religion or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach Buddhism or East Asian religions.
