Part-time Faculty: SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology (Online Summer 2026)

Location: Syracuse, NY - (online)

Pay Range: $5,000 - $6,000 per course

Pay Determination:
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:

Open Section
The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University seeks 2 part-time instructors to teach open sections of Sociology 101 - Introduction to Sociology- ONLINE Summer 2026 (3 credits).

Course Description: This course focuses on the principal concepts, methods, and findings in sociology. Societal structures, processes, institutions, and social roles from both macro and microanalytic human behavior perspectives.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a MA in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
  • Preference will be given to ABD and PhD level students from our program and to those who have previously taught for us.

Job Specific Qualifications:

  • Evidence of effective teaching experience is necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Posting appropriate class materials online.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regular and timely communication with all students.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
