Job Description
The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs seeks a part-time faculty to teach 1 open section of Sociology 248 - Racial & Ethnic Inequalities (3 credits) Online Summer 2026.
Course Description: This course focuses on the identification of individuals and groups by self and others as members of ethnic categories. Emphasizing ethnic inequalities, group interactions, social movements and change, racism, prejudice, and discrimination.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an MA in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
- Preference will be given to ABD and PhD level students from our program, and to instructors who have previously taught for us.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Evidence of effective teaching experience is necessary.
Responsibilities
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meeting all designated class periods.
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
