Duties & Responsibilities:
The Lab and Research Specialist is a NIH-grant funded position that will work in a research laboratory focused on the development and testing of pre-clinical models to treat breast cancer metastasis. The major task for this position will be to perform animal husbandry to assist other researchers and cell culture based studies to identify drugs to treat metastatic breast cancer. Standard daytime (8AM-5PM) work hours are required with occasional weekend time required.
This is a restricted, grant-funded position with no set end date. Continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The candidate should have experience working in a scientific research laboratory.
- The candidate should be highly organized and provide evidence of successfully working in a team environment.
- Experience handling mice and animal husbandry.
- Experience performing cell culture based studies on cancer cells treated with therapeutic compounds. Use of robotics for pipetting.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is highly preferred.
