Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The tutor supports high school students enrolled in college-level courses by providing remote, subject-specific academic assistance. The goal is to enhance students' understanding of course material, build academic confidence, and improve study habits, all while promoting equity and access in education.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Tutors work under the supervision of the Early College Program staff affiliated with the MetroWest College Planning Collaborative.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
This position does not involve supervision of other staff. Tutors are responsible only for supporting assigned students and do not oversee other employees.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide tutoring in subjects like English, Sociology, Business, Health Science, Philosophy, History, Global Studies, Business Communication, and Communication.
- Help students understand assignments and prepare for tests.
- Teach and reinforce skills in time management, note-taking, and critical thinking.
- Tailor tutoring methods to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
- Maintain open communication with students and program staff.
- Log session notes and track student progress.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a remote, part-time position.
- Work is conducted after school hours and on weekends.
- Scheduling is flexible and based on tutor and student availability.
- Tutors must have reliable internet access and be able to work independently from within the United States.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong academic background in one or more relevant subject areas.
- Currently enrolled in or completed college-level coursework.
- Ability to clearly and patiently explain academic content.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable internet access and capability to work remotely and independently.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience tutoring or mentoring high school or college students.
- Familiarity with early college or dual enrollment programs.
- Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese are strongly encouraged to apply.
Additional Information:
This is a part-time, non-benefited contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The pay rate is $23-26 per hour.
