This position participates and leads in the direction, supervision and provision of daily inventory management operations provided by technical support staff. such as procurement, tracking, receiving and storage of inventory products, computer data entry, production, packaging, shipping, quality assurance, performance improvement and regulatory compliance to ensure safe and effective provision of patient care for all patient age groups. Partners with the HomeMed Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy Supply Chain & UMH Central Supply to support integrated and collaborative workflows for pharmaceutical / supply / equipment & smart pump use implementation, purchasing, contract compliance, best price procurement practices, management of product recalls, shortages and outages. Provides oversight of subordinate biomedical engineering staff managing equipment inventory and services. Ensures that all services are performed in accordance with hospital, departmental, and governmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensures all related quality assurance, billing, and distribution activities are performed and documented. Manages functional area(s) as designated. Assists with the creation, development, and implementation of new programs. Performs clinical pharmacist duties and responsibilities on an intermittent and as needed frequency.

Essential

  • Direct and be accountable for the selection, training, personnel management, and competency assessment of all supervisory, technical, and any clinical direct reporting staff, and other subordinate staff in the absence of direct reporting supervisor(s).
  • Collaborate with procurement partners to supervise and coordinate the procurement, tracking, storage and distribution of all home infusion inventory in the provision of service to patients.
  • Provide direct oversight and management for home infusion contracting compliance, adherence to federal and state purchasing program requirements and best price procurement practices when purchasing inventory
  • Collaborate and coordinate with manager peers to facilitate success, change management and safe/quality outcomes for integrated operational and clinical workflows, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide direct oversight and management of home infusion equipment including implementation and maintenance of drug libraries, compliance with safety standards, and reporting
  • Engage in or lead inventory related Requests for Proposals and Requests for Quotes related to home infusion inventory items or activities
  • Be responsible and accountable for all inventory storage requirements including and not limited to temperature controls, security, segregation, high alert, hazardous, and look alike inventory items
  • Partner with Pharmacy Supply Chain and other clinical leaders to administer local department execution of drug and product recalls, shortages, outages, and instances where therapeutic substitution is necessary including providing direction to the inventory group as needed to carry out the required processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements for the procurement, storage and distribution of home infusion inventory
  • Contribute to the education, training and professional development of University of Michigan College of Pharmacy students and interns through support of on-site pharmacy experiences and internships.
  • Be accountable for compliance with all regulatory standards sourced to provision of operations (such Joint Commission, URAC, CMS, DEA, FDA etc.)
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of new or expanded home care infusion services or programs.
  • Compliantly addresses and resolves customer complaints
  • Evaluates, resolves, and reports on assigned Risk Reporting entries
  • Competently and proficiently perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined in the HomeMed Clinical Pharmacist job description.
  • Foster Belonging and Inclusion by leading and supporting active initiatives; support and participate in BASE+ strategies leading and being a member of teams, projects, workgroups etc.

Other Related Duties:

  • Complies with all University of Michigan and departmental standards and expectations.
  • Supports the department's commitment to continuous improvement activities and principles through positive and respectful contribution in all problem-solving and change processes.
  • Participates in department committees and work teams as assigned.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development and maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in-service classes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy is necessary.
  • Current registration as a Registered Pharmacist by the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy is necessary, or immediate eligibility for Licensure.
  • Possession of a State narcotics license is necessary.
  • Reasonable experience as a staff pharmacist including hospital and practical business experience is necessary.
  • One-year pharmacy residency or fellowship or equivalent clinical experience.
  • 3 to 5 years pharmacy experience including 1 to 2 years supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of one-year experience in home care activities with a demonstrated knowledge of regulations, standards, and guidelines applicable to home care pharmacies, admixtures practices, and other pharmacy services.
  • Proficient in operating within the Windows environment with experience in using the following software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access
