Job Summary

We offer a challenging PhD position in the Mathematics of Computational Science group to design and analyse novel structure-preserving methods for stochastic dynamical systems, with applications in plasma physics, molecular dynamics, and sustainable energy research. The project focuses on developing and analyzing novel structure-preserving numerical algorithms for stochastic Hamiltonian systems, ensuring stability and accuracy in long-time simulations. This research contributes to improving large-scale plasma simulations for nuclear fusion devices.

Responsibilities

Conduct research in a collaborative environment, develop numerical algorithms, analyze stochastic dynamical systems, collaborate with experts, present work at conferences, and engage in international collaborations. The position includes funding for research stays at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics.

Qualifications and Requirements

You are an enthusiastic researcher with a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics or a related field. You possess a strong background in scientific computing and numerical analysis, particularly in methods for ordinary and partial differential equations. Proficient programming skills in Julia, Python, Matlab, or C/C++ are required. Familiarity with differential geometry, stochastic differential equations, or computational plasma physics is needed. You must have good team spirit, work in interdisciplinary environments, and be proficient in English. An IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge CAE-C score is required for non-native English speakers.

What the Employer Offers

A full-time position for four years with a qualifier in the first year and flexible work options. Salary ranges from €3,059 to €3,881 per month. Benefits include a holiday allowance of 8%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, a solid pension scheme, minimum 232 leave hours, free access to sports facilities, and a family-friendly environment with parental leave. You will also have a training program as part of the Twente Graduate School.
