Phlebotomy Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY

The phlebotomy instructor will provide classroom, laboratory, and/or related clinical instruction including but not limited to venipuncture procedures, the anatomy and physiology associated with practice, laboratory testing, and specimen collection. The instructor is responsible for providing student instruction in accordance with approved syllabi, curriculum guidelines, and program standards. In addition to classroom and lab responsibilities, the instructor will be responsible for scheduling internships, supporting student compliance with clinical onboarding requirements and providing oversight to all students at various clinical settings.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches course as assigned within instructor workload guidelines.
  • Meets all scheduled classes attendance requirements and maintains a work schedule as agreed upon. Course times may vary including evenings and/or Saturdays.
  • Provides adequate preparation of the course material for all assigned courses.
  • Supervises and enforces appropriate safety procedures.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of the approved program curriculum and syllabi and participates in cooperative planning with colleagues.
  • Participates, as appropriate, in college-wide assessment of student learning activities and/or projects.
  • Manages student clinical rotations in clinical scheduling software.
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, clinical hours, and competencies.
  • Ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds.
  • Experience with classroom instruction and curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of education theory and techniques.
  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative and commitment towards program growth and community partnerships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and all other college employees.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in Phlebotomy with a current industry-recognized credential/certification such as CPT or ASCP, OR a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with experience in phlebotomy techniques with two years of clinical experience, OR a Registered Nurse (RN) with two years of clinical experience in phlebotomy techniques.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association.
  • Must hold or qualify for a postsecondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) credential including 4000 hours of paid, non-teaching occupational experience within the past five years. (CTE website)
  • Associates degree or higher in a related health field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year teaching experience in post-secondary and/or vocational/technical education location including online and in-person delivery methods.
  • BLS Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range: The starting rate is $1,149.00 per credit hour taught.
