Overview
Auburn University Facilities Management is seeking a dedicated and motivated Plant Operations Technician to join our team. In this role, you'll help keep campus running by maintaining boiler and hot loop water chemistry and supporting the daily operation of our district energy systems. If you enjoy hands on work, solving problems, and keeping essential equipment operating at its best, this position offers a chance to make a real impact. You'll perform preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and support the reliability of our chilled water and heating plant equipment, helping ensure a comfortable, efficient environment for the entire Auburn community.
Responsibilities
- Performs preventative maintenance on motors, pumps, boilers, cooling towers, pneumatic and digital controls, valve actuators and operators, and flow meters. Performs seasonal transitions of systems to and from heating and cooling.
- Performs basic repairs of district energy chilled water and heating plant equipment including: motors, pumps, boilers, cooling towers, pneumatic and digital controls, valve actuators and operators, and flow meters.
- Maintains boiler (steam and condensate) and secondary hot-loop chemistry
- Assists contracted water treatment specialist with installation and maintenance of primary hot water, chilled water, and condensing water energy plant systems. Will be responsible for meeting and maintaining training and certification requirements as outlined by the Auburn University Facilities Management Policy: "Training, Education, and Certification Requirements for Mechanical and Electrical Trades Personnel.
- Completes hot and chilled water cleanings for building projects and assists contractors with developing and maintaining Auburn's rigorous chemical treatment protocol during the construction phase of the process.
- Performs requisite chemical tests for primary and secondary loop water treatment to determine chemical levels on a weekly basis.
- Rebuilds and maintains plant water softeners on an as needed basis.
- Ensures primary and secondary water treatment protocols are being strictly followed both in the campus buildings and the utility plants. Serves as liaison for chemical treatment vendor ensuring all deliveries and water treatment problems are properly addressed.
- Serves as the subject matter expert for chemical water treatment for Plant Operations.
Qualifications
- High School diploma + 2 years of experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of a wide array of common plant system components.
- Driver License
- Universal Refrigerant Card required within 180 Days
