Job Summary

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) invites applications for the Department Chair of Political Science, Criminal Justice, and International Studies (PCIS) position starting July 1, 2026. PCIS is a dynamic department that encompasses two majors (Political Science and Criminal Justice) and multiple minors and certificate programs (including, but not limited to, Public Administration, Legal Studies, and World Languages)

The Department Chair provides leadership for the department and works collaboratively with the faculty across the Department's disciplines to meet the academic needs of students, and to foster excellence in programs, instruction, scholarly activity, student engagement, and service. This is a 12-month appointment reporting to the Dean. The Department Chair contributes to the work of the Department through teaching (half-time), remaining active as a scholar, and through student engagement and service. The candidate must have the capability to effectively manage course scheduling and personnel, lead curriculum development, cultivate and maintain alumni relations, and carry out other Department leadership functions in addition to performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the department, with the experience and documented achievements appropriate for consideration of an appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
  • A record of effective teaching, service, student engagement, and scholarly activity within the candidate's area of specialization.
  • Relevant academic administrative experience.
  • A strong commitment to the School and College mission and a passion for working with and mentoring faculty and students.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • A commitment to fostering academic excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference may be given to candidates with at least three years of academic leadership experience at the program level or higher.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience planning, managing, and administering a departmental budget to align with the Department's strategic goals and mission.
