The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will conduct scientific research within the lab of Paul Thomas, Ph.D., Professor in the Division of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Thomas's lab is researching innate and adaptive immunity to influenza and other respiratory viruses; T cell receptor repertoires in infection and cancer; influenza-associated immune-induced healing responses and pathology; and CD4 and CD8 T cell memory and recall potential.

This role is fully on-campus or on-site at another Fred Hutch facility.

Responsibilities

The Position will be involved with pursuing the major scientific research goals of Dr. Thomas's lab with a focus on studying immune regulation of lung repair after respiratory viral infection, including the interactions of conventional immune and stromal cells. In this light, the Position's specific job duties will include:

  • Perform experiments in using murine and human samples and run immunology assays including flow cytometry, single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and high throughput immune repertoire sequencing.
  • Manage mouse colonies, including organizing breeding to maintain genetic profiles and relevant controls strains.
  • Analyze and synthesize data gained from experiments into conclusions.
  • Study the adaptive immune response in the context of respiratory infections of varying severities.
  • Define features of effective and ineffective antigen targets in the T cell repertoire and develop in vitro and in vivo models to test features of diverse immune specificities.
  • Participate and engage in institutional, division, and the lab's principal investigator's laboratory seminars and meetings.
  • Write scientific articles, make presentations, and attend national and international scientific conferences to share research findings.
  • Supervise and assist in the training of graduate or undergraduate students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. or higher degree in a closely related field of study or the equivalent, as a minimum to perform the duties of this position. Only an individual who possesses this level of academic training can discharge the professional responsibilities of the specialty occupation position. This requirement is common to this industry in parallel positions among similar organizations.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $77,976 to $95,014, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
