Postdoctoral Associate
The Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Associate to work in the group of Prof. Juanita Hidalgo.
New York University (NYU) is one of the top private universities in the United States, and the Tandon School of Engineering, located in Brooklyn, NY, is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Tandon fosters student and faculty innovation and entrepreneurship that make a difference in the world.
The Hidalgo Lab investigates the circularity of energy materials, bridging fundamental materials science with practical strategies for recycling and repurposing energy-conversion technologies. The lab integrates experimental materials synthesis, advanced characterization (including synchrotron-based methods), and circularity analysis to develop sustainable pathways for next-generation solar cells, fuel cells, and related systems.
Expectations
The Postdoctoral Associate will play an important role to establish and advance the lab’s research on the circularity of energy materials.
- Work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, new academic environment.
- Develop and apply a fundamental understanding of chemistry and materials to guide the rational design of sustainable recycling.
- Lead or assist in synchrotron-based characterization work, including proposal preparation, experimental planning, and data interpretation.
- Prepare and publish manuscripts in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, providing guidance in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication.
- Assist in setting up the new laboratory, including establishing experimental protocols, safety procedures, and equipment organization.
- Contribute to proposal and grant writing efforts to support and expand the lab’s research.
Salary range
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $65,000 depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.
A PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, or energy-related fields is required. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
