Offer Description
Activities and context
A post-doctoral position is available to investigate mitochondrial peroxiredoxins (Prxs) in the response to oxidative stress and redox signaling. The project aims to understand: (i) the mechanisms that target Prxs to the mitochondrial matrix and intermembrane space (IMS); (ii) how Prxs in these compartments regulate peroxide homeostasis, including H2O2; and (iii) the functions of these proteins in the mitochondrial matrix and IMS. Yeast and human cell models will be employed, with a particular focus on the connections between mitochondrial Prxs, cancer, and ferroptosis.
Mandatory requirements
- Experience with redox proteins, peroxiredoxins, H2O2 metabolism, and/or mitochondrial biology;
- Experience with yeast and/or mammalian cell models;
- Experience with subcellular fractionation and protein localization studies;
- Knowledge of or experience with genetically encoded redox sensors and/or fluorescence microscopy;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research team;
- Interest in contributing to the training and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
