The high-energy/AGN research group in the department of Physics at UMBC invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate to work under the mentorship of Dr. Eileen Meyer. The postdoc will work on federally-funded projects related to HST, VLA, and Chandra observations of jetted AGN. A background in radio-loud AGN and/or experience with the above observatories will be positively viewed, but are not required. The candidate will be encouraged to pursue original lines of research both within the scope of these projects and through e.g., additional funded projects of mutual interest. The projects are well-funded and include ample resources for attending conferences, training activities, publications, and undergraduate assistants.

The start date is expected to be August-September 2023, though as early as April 2023 may be accommodated for appropriate candidates. The initial appointment is for one year, but renewal for up to 3 years is anticipated, subject to performance and funding. Candidates should have a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field. The AGN research group is highly active, with 4-5 graduate students and 4-5 undergraduate researchers at any given time. Candidates with a demonstrated interest in collaboration and mentoring will be viewed positively. Candidates with an interest in teaching will also be provided with opportunities to further their experience where feasible.

UMBC and the Department of Physics are dedicated to creating an inclusive, collegial environment where all faculty members can achieve excellence. Thus, candidates from diverse backgrounds, including women and under-represented minorities, are particularly encouraged to apply. Interest and experience in working with a diverse student and faculty population is valued. The Department of Physics has an active Graduate Women in Physics group and an Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics group, and has ties with the nationally acclaimed Meyerhoff Scholars Program. UMBC is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.

Candidates should have a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field.

Interested candidates should upload a cover letter, CV, 2-3 page research statement, and the names and contact information for at least three references to the Interfolio website at http://apply.interfolio.com/111569. Applications will be received until a suitable candidate is identified.

UMBC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
