Position Description
The Chattopadhyay Ecohydrology Lab at Texas State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work at the interface of eco-hydrology, freshwater ecology, and environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis. The postdoc will play a central role in developing a new research program focused on intermittent stream systems, with particular emphasis on understanding how hydrologic context and environmental gradients shape biodiversity signals for freshwater macroinvertebrates. This position is ideal for a motivated early-career scientist seeking to grow expertise in interdisciplinary environmental research while contributing to high-impact publications and grant development.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in ecology, environmental science, hydrology, biology, or a closely related field (completed by start date).
- Experience with freshwater field research and environmental sampling.
- Familiarity with eDNA workflows, including water sampling and filtration (wet-lab processing experience is welcome but not required).
- Working knowledge of R/Python for ecological data analysis (data handling, visualization, multivariate analyses).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in stream or river systems, particularly intermittent or disturbed systems.
- Exposure to eDNA data interpretation (metabarcoding and/or qPCR).
- Experience integrating ecological data with hydrologic or spatial datasets.
- Interest in expanding quantitative or computational skills (e.g., advanced modeling, machine learning).
