Postdoctoral Research Fellow

A postdoctoral research fellow position is available at the University of Michigan, School of Kinesiology, in the Muscle Biology Laboratory, which is directed by Greg Cartee, to elucidate the mechanisms whereby exercise and/or diet regulate glucose uptake and insulin and/or AMPK signaling in skeletal muscle. The laboratory group has extensive expertise in a variety of methods for rigorous study of glucose uptake and signaling in rodent skeletal muscle, including the use of adeno-associated virus (AAV) approaches to manipulate protein expression. In addition to collaborating with other members of the Muscle Biology Laboratory, the trainee will have the opportunity to interact with an outstanding group of researchers in other labs at the University of Michigan and with our collaborators at other institutions. There will be opportunities for career development, including participation in the preparation and submission of research grant proposals.

The publications listed below are relevant to ongoing research in the Muscle Biology Laboratory:

The successful candidate must have:

  • Earned a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a biological science
  • A high level of motivation for applying cell biology, molecular biology, biochemical, and/or physiological approaches to research performed using rodent models
  • Knowledge, experience, and technical skill with cellular, molecular, biochemical, and/or physiological methods to complement the ongoing research in the Muscle Biology Laboratory
  • The ability to effectively communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team
  • Experience with siRNA, shRNA, and/or adeno-associated virus (AAV) methods in cells or tissues in vivo
  • Experience with tissue sectioning and/or confocal and/or light microscopy

Please combine the cover letter, CV and references into ONE document before submitting your electronic application.

To apply, please submit your electronic application via this website. A cover letter is required for consideration of the position and should be attached as the first page of your vitae. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position, your research accomplishments, and outline your skills and experience that directly relate to this position.
