The Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the broad areas of statistics, data science and AI. The focus will be on developing and applying novel statistical, machine learning and AI-based computational tools to advance biomedical as well as oncology research. The fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Veera Baladandayuthapani and there will be opportunities to collaborate within the Department of Biostatistics and across the School of Public Health and University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center. The Department of Biostatistics is ranked 3 by the US news World Report and Rankings. We have a thriving body of 47 faculty, 16 postdocs, 243 students and 124 research and administrative staff, with close ties to the Department of Statistics, the Medical School, the Michigan Institute for Data Science, and other research groups across campus.
The start date is flexible; the selected candidate will ideally begin as soon as possible.
You will work with Dr. Baladandayuthapani and his research group in developing statistical and computational methods for large-scale, high-dimensional, complex-structured biomedical data. The research topics include, but not limited to, computational approaches such as AI and machine learning; methodological foundations and computational approaches for AI for biomedicine, Bayesian inference, cancer imaging, digital pathology, spatial biomodeling, systems biology and other high-throughput data sources.
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop statistical methods and apply them to real-world studies, write manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, disseminate research findings at professional conferences, and collaborate with biomedical researchers.

Requirements:
- PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field by the time of the appointment
- Strong methodological and computational skills
- Demonstrated interest or experience in health-related applications of statistical, data science and AI-based methods
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of an additional 2 years based on available funding and performance.
