Department Summary
Serving as the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Monica L Baskin is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to enrich and support her cancer prevention and control research program. The successful candidate will develop, conduct, coordinate, and supervise the research and administrative activities of the research studies conducted by the PI. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and passionate about publishing methodological and applied research manuscripts. Additionally, they should be eager to collaborate on grant proposals aimed at advancing their career as an independent researcher in cancer prevention and control. The selected candidate will actively contribute to multiple research projects, overseeing project coordination, recruitment, and the comprehensive process of data collection, management, and analysis. Further, they will work both independently and collaboratively, adeptly resolving routine-to-complex issues independently and addressing more intricate matters in coordination with the PI. Current areas of focus encompass community-engaged research, cancer health outcomes, environmental influences on cancer incidence and outcomes, and dissemination and implementation science.
Required Qualifications:
- Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in behavioral or social sciences (e.g., psychology), epidemiology, public health, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated interest in developing research skills and goals for pursuing a research-intensive academic career and an interest in cancer prevention and control research.
- Proven track record in conducting empirical research and contributing significantly to extramurally-funded research projects.
- Strong understanding of and research background in public health, community-engagement, and/or environmental health specifically focused on populations who historically have experienced poor health outcomes.
- Training and experience with multiple research designs (e.g., quantitative AND qualitative research methods).
- Proven evidence of exceptional community engagement and outreach skills, adept in nurturing meaningful relationships and fostering collaborations within diverse communities, while actively valuing, promoting, and contributing to community-engaged initiatives.
- Previous experience collaborating with investigators from various disciplines (e.g., public health, medicine, psychology).
- Demonstrated academic writing skills (e.g., through publication record, prior experience in grant writing).
- Demonstrating aptitude in autonomous work and fostering collaborative synergy within team environments.
- Proven capacity for profound critical thinking, effective time management, as well as exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in both qualitative AND quantitative data analysis, encompassing statistical package utilization
- Demonstrated competence in managing databases.
- Experience in mentoring or supervising high school, undergraduate, and/or graduate students is desirable.
- Experience in program evaluation methodologies, including design, implementation, and analysis, with a focus on assessing program effectiveness and impact.
- Proven proficiency in working effectively in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound judgment in setting priorities.

Salary Range: Starting at $60,000 - commensurate with experience
FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt
