Postdoctoral Researcher – Schmidt AI in Science Fellow

The University of Toronto is pleased to announce the fourth call for applications for the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship, a program of Schmidt Sciences. This program brings together bright minds who have completed a PhD in the natural sciences or engineering and aim to pursue research involving artificial intelligence (AI) applications in their domain. It funds cutting-edge AI applications in the natural sciences and engineering, fostering a community of interdisciplinary leaders.

Applicants must demonstrate expertise and promise in their field. AI experience is not required, but a desire to learn AI methodologies to accelerate discoveries is essential. The fellowship provides $85,000 CDN per year for 2 years and includes training in AI and computational skills.

Application Deadline: October 8, 2025 (5PM EST)

Start Date: Between May 1, 2026 and January 1, 2027

Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, strong synergy with supervisors and the institutional environment, and potential for adopting AI methodologies. They must hold a PhD in a natural sciences or engineering discipline and secure a supervisor with a full-time appointment at the University of Toronto. If the primary supervisor lacks AI expertise, a co-supervisor with AI expertise is required.
