Description
Faculty in this program will teach in the MMS graduate program with the preferred areas of specialization include: Pinniped and Cetacean Brain and Behavior.
Examples of Duties
Teaching
Deliver two graduate-level courses in marine mammal science per year
Deliver two additional graduate-level course equivalents per year (laboratory offerings or sponsoring student research/thesis course equivalents)
Optionally, contribute to undergraduate programs through teaching, cross-listing courses, or sponsoring tutorials, theses, or ISPs
Research
Establish and maintain a productive research program in marine mammal science
Engage in individual or collaborative grant-seeking activities such as researching, co-writing, and applying for grants from external sources
Mentorship
Advise and mentor graduate students, providing guidance on research projects and professional development
Student pipeline lead: coordinate with the CEO to determine current NCF undergrad interest in MMS
Student pipeline lead: identify, maintain relationships, coordinate with potential MMS Ph.D. programs
Service
Engage in service activities for the marine mammal science program and broader scientific community
Foster and maintain relationships with external researchers and facilities, ensuring effective collaboration and opportunities for student engagement
Visioning and set-up of international marine mammal neuroscience working group
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in a field related to Marine Mammal Science, including Biology, Biological Oceanography, Psychology, and Zoology
Proven teaching experience with a commitment to mentoring students
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated record of research excellence in marine mammal science as evidenced by publications and invited presentations
Prior success with research funding from national and international sources
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
