"Probationary, full-time Instructor III in Disability Studies"

The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) and Disability Studies Program (DS) invite applications for a designated Probationary, full-time Instructor III position, with a concentration/disciplinary specialization in Disability Studies for qualified candidates who self-identify as women, racialized, Indigenous, disabled, and 2SLGBTQ+. This position commences January 1, 2026, and is subject to final budgetary approval. Applicants are required to hold a PhD in DS, WGS, or a related discipline.

Instructors’ responsibilities shall encompass teaching and service to the University of Winnipeg without the expectation to conduct research or scholarship other than that directly related to their teaching duties. They will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in DS and WGS such as: Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies, Introduction to Disability Studies I and II, Theorizing Disability, with the opportunity to develop special topics courses in their field.

We seek applications from candidates with scholarly and teaching excellence in disability studies with an understanding of disablement in conversation with Indigenous feminisms, critical race feminisms, transnational feminisms, trans and queer studies, and community-engaged approaches.

WGS and DS each offer a 3-Year BA, a 4-Year BA, an Honours BA, and a Minor degree. All DS Major degrees are offered jointly with the Disability and Community Support program at Red River Polytech. WGS and DS foster an awareness and understanding of the realities and diverse experiences of women, men, gender fluid, and 2SLGBTQ+ persons, and fosters critical consciousness of oppression and the related societal inequalities based on gender, race, class, age, disablement, sex, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and religion. DS is housed in WGS, and is based in an intersectional, social model of disability. Its focus is on the critical analysis of disability and disablement in society. This includes the study of disability as a social, cultural, historical, and political construction.

Candidates must have a record of excellence in teaching and experience in undergraduate teaching in the interdisciplinary context of WGS and DS. Applicants are requested to submit a complete application that will include (all documents in a single PDF):

• Cover letter (2 page maximum) including how you identify in terms of the designated groups and any other materials that you consider relevant to your application.
• Academic CV
• Teaching dossier including a teaching statement and philosophy, approaches to inclusive and experiential learning (1 page maximum); examples of teaching effectiveness and achievements (2 page maximum); a summary and example of evaluation methods (2 page maximum); a condensed syllabus of a relevant course previously taught (2 page maximum) and an EDI statement (1 page maximum)
