Job Summary

The Division of Continuing Education at the University of Colorado, Boulder invites applications for a Program Assistant / Peer Mentor for the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program! This role combines administrative support with peer mentoring, offering guidance and support to fellow post-baccalaureate students while assisting with the program’s admission process as well as day-to-day program operations. The position reports to the Pre-Health Program Director.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Program Director and Admissions Manager of the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program
  • Serve as the primary manager of the program's email accounts:
    • Supervise and triage all incoming messages in a professional manner within two business days of receipt
    • Respond directly to routine, in-scope inquiries using established guidelines and templates
    • Forward complex, sensitive, or out-of-scope messages to appropriate staff
  • Assist with keeping the program's webpages and resources current and accurate
  • Provide logistical support for program activities, such as sending out announcements, scheduling events, and preparing program materials
  • Assist the Admissions Manager by reviewing applications, corresponding with applicants and accepted students, scheduling interviews, and potentially serving as an admissions interviewer
  • Assist with basic data entry and internal tracking in accordance with program procedures and FERPA guidelines
  • Participate in a staff meeting every 1-2 months (typically 1.5 hours in duration) and occasional special-topic meetings, as needed

Peer Mentorship & Student Support

  • Serve as a peer-based point of contact for incoming and current post-baccalaureate students via in-person meet-ups, email, phone, text, and/or Zoom
  • Offer peer-level guidance advised by personal experience as a student in the program; topics may include academic strategies, use of campus resources, and day-to-day logistics relevant to post-baccalaureate students
  • Connect with professionalism, discretion, and empathy when interacting with prospective and incoming students
  • Refer students to appropriate staff members and campus resources when questions fall outside the scope of the role

What You Should Know

This will be an on-call position, so weekly work hours will be variable. The peer mentor/tutor must be available to work up to with a flexible schedule, to include evening availability, for up to 15 hours per week.

What We Require

  • Completed bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Completion of 18+ credit hours of math/science pre-health prerequisites while enrolled in the Cohort-Based or Individually Designed Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions program at the University of Colorado Boulder.
  • Active engagement in the program's pre-health advising services, with attendance at a minimum of three pre-health advising sessions (individual appointments and/or group advising sessions/workshops) since March 1, 2025.

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, with the ability to act with diplomacy, tact, and patience.
  • Ability to work independently and appropriately prioritize multiple projects and requests to meet varying goals.
  • Willingness to work in an environment that may require flexibility, including occasional evening work to accommodate staff meetings, presentations, or events.
  • Appreciation for and openness to working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and educational pathways.
  • Desire to serve as a peer mentor with current students, with the goal of promoting the students’ academic success, pre-health preparation, and sense of community.
  • Interest in representing and promoting the program in verbal and written communications with prospective students.
  • Strong interest in and alignment with the mission of the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions program.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Interest in learning more about post-baccalaureate program admissions and participating in the application review process.
  • Interest in assisting with program website editing and content updates.
  • Experience with administrative projects requiring proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
