Join a dynamic team at Utah Valley University where you'll play a central role in strengthening student engagement and shaping meaningful campus experiences. As the Program Director for the Student Connection Branch within UVU's student government structure, you will lead the planning, implementation, and facilitation of initiatives that help students feel connected, supported, and empowered. Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Involvement, you'll build impactful partnerships across campus, support the development and delivery of student trainings and events, and contribute to the overall branding and visibility of the student government program. Your work will directly influence student engagement and provide opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Tracks allocated budget use and reconciles monthly purchases and deposits. Contributes to the development of program learning outcomes by participating in group conversations with department leadership and assisting in the implementation of teaching activities. Directs the implementation of programming, events, and activities dedicated to promoting connection and belonging on campus. Conducts assessment to evaluate effectiveness of programs/events. Builds campus partnerships by collaborating with other SDWB programs and university units. Promotes program to the student community through development of marketing materials, distribution of program information to university units, and tabling at events such as orientations and fairs. Directs the recruitment, interview process, selection and onboarding of student leaders. Facilitates the creation of design assets for marketing/branding and distribution of promotional materials. Supervises the student government communications and branding efforts including the management of staff and student leaders assigned.
- Student Mentorship: Maintains a regular in-office presence and availability to advise and support student leaders. Conducts one-on-one meetings providing constructive feedback for progression. Evaluates student skill development - Creates teaching activities and facilitates regularly held student trainings - Supervises and tracks participation of scholarship-receiving student leaders as well as volunteers. Guides students in the planning and execution of activities, group meetings, development of partnerships, project completion, etc. Attends student events sponsored by the program to provide staff presence and assistance when needed, including but not limited to on-campus events and off-campus retreats and activities.
- Department Systems: Utilizes internal department databases ensuring student information is up to date for current use, archive purposes, and alumni interactions. Provides training on database use and functionality to student users. Develops forms for collection of necessary information from events/activities. Regularly communicates with staff and student leaders through the use of Microsoft Teams.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned to promote the success of the program and The Department of Student Leadership and Involvement, including assistance in executing departmental projects/events.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
- One or more years of experience in managing/instructing small groups.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and sustain relationships with others.
- Ability to contribute to a collaborative environment as a team player.
- Project and program management skills including the development, implementation, management, and evaluation.
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
- Basic technological skills including but not limited to word processing, email communications, spreadsheets, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience within higher education, specifically student life and/or student leadership.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- A knowledge of and commitment to student involvement.
- A knowledge of methods and practices of effective leadership principles and techniques, including mentoring and supervision.
- A knowledge of planning, developing, and coordinating student programs.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of common university services.
- Demonstrated skill set centered on group dynamics, mentorship, and leadership development.
- Project and program management skills including conception, development, implementation, management, and evaluation.
- Basic technological skills including but not limited to word processing, email communications, spreadsheets, etc.
- Basic skills in public speaking and presentation to small and large groups.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and sustain relationships with others such as campus departments, students, staff, and faculty and contribute to a collaborative environment as a team player.
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures and apply them in the appropriate settings.
- Ability to effectively facilitate one on one and group meetings including the navigation of sensitive subject content such as race, gender, ideologies, etc. and the introduction of new ideas.
- Able to adjust to a variable work schedule including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
