Job Description

Financial Administration (FAD) is dedicated to advancing Harvard University’s teaching and research mission by stewarding its resources; providing support, guidance, and consultation; ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and University policies; mitigating risk; pursuing operational excellence; and promoting the financial health of the University.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Risk and Compliance Services, the Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services, is responsible for maintaining and administering the University’s Anonymous Reporting Hotline, supporting the Institutional Compliance Program (IC Program) and the Institutional Risk Management (IRM) program.

Harvard University seeks a collaborative, organized, and strategic individual to be its Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Risk and Compliance Services, the Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services primarily will be responsible for administering the University’s Anonymous Reporting Hotline whereby the University’s employees, faculty, students, or others may report or seek guidance regarding reporting potential or actual ethical, integrity, safety, security, and compliance concerns without fear of retaliation. The Program Manager, Risk and Compliance Services will also be responsible for supporting the establishment and implementation of the Institutional Compliance Program (IC Program), including involvement in the Institutional Risk Management (IRM) program which provides a structured process for identifying, assessing, prioritizing and managing risks across various levels of the University. The person in this role will develop and foster close relationships with key stakeholders in Harvard’s central administration and schools.

  • Manage the University’s Anonymous Reporting Hotline, including prompt review and triage of incoming reports, outreach and follow up with university officials, oversight of case management, communications with reporters, maintaining system records, maintenance of system records, production of reports, and updates to supporting materials such as standard operating procedures, templates and contact lists.
  • Provide support to the Associate Director, Risk and Compliance Services, by assisting with regulatory research, participating in meetings, and assisting with compliance assessments.
  • Support the IRM program, including assisting the Institutional Risk & Compliance Officer with the university-wide risk assessment process.
  • Stay abreast of current events, applicable laws, regulations, and trends in the higher education risk and compliance landscape to support the University’s compliance efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 7+ years' experience in a compliance or legal role and/ or demonstrated experience in hotline operations or conducting investigations in a compliance, HR, or related setting.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in a University or healthcare setting.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong judgment and discretion handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate with a broad range of university officials and maintain timely follow up.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and data analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with hotline systems, case management platforms, or investigative processes.
  • Experience with Navex’s EthicsPoint hotline software a plus.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) or Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) is preferred but not required.

  • Standard Hours/Schedule:
    This role follows a hybrid schedule, combining remote work with required in‑office days at the Cambridge, MA office. Occasional travel to other sites across the University is required

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
