Advertised Job Summary
Serves as project manager directly responsible for oversight of design and execution of minor capital construction and renovation.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering/engineering technology or construction management and 5 years of experience.
- Experience with Higher Education, Medical or Athletics programming, design and construction.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications; to build, plan and work within budgeted resources.
- Ability to estimate work and work within a changing work setting; to interpret and apply rules and regulations.
- Ability to manage work and associate with project managers and staff; to make presentations and prepare reports.
- Ability to develop a wide base of close customer relationships; to interact with various levels of personnel; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use technology and involve stakeholders.
Job Duties
35%: Assists Project Management staff with the planning and implementation of capital projects. Monitor project budget, schedule and internal document processing with regular updates to project managers and supervisors. Schedule and attend meetings, provide written minutes. Review contractual documents and provide written recommendations. Assist PM with project closeout activities.
30%: Executes development and implementation of minor capital projects, including small renovations and new construction. Working with external architects, engineers, and other consultants and contractors, responsibilities will include coordination of planning, design, bidding, on-site construction administration and close-out procedures. Monitor/manage schedules, project budgets, feasibility studies, cost estimation and value engineering for capital and occasional maintenance projects. Monitor and control contractual commitments to assure performance of work including, but not limited to, compliance with drawings and specifications. Engage other University entities as required to support the management and implementation of projects. Monitor small contractor opportunities. Coordinate with the Office of the State Engineer and other state and local authorities as required.
20%: Frequently and effectively communicate project issues with staff and management in the Columbia office of Facilities Planning, Design and Construction. Create and distribute regular reports to document the status of numerous ongoing projects. Maintain effective communication with the project team and stakeholders.
10%: Develop and maintain knowledge of, and implement, the policies, procedures and standards of the University, Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, Office of State Engineer, DHEC, municipalities, as well as the standards of the design and construction industry.
5%: Performs other duties as required by the Director, Assistant Director and AVP of Facilities Planning, Design and Construction/University Architect.
