Overview

Yale University Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Project Manager dedicated to supporting the Department of Anesthesia. This role will be responsible for leading complex projects, working closely with department leadership, and driving key initiatives that support the development and expansion of the department. The ideal candidate will have strong project management expertise, business acumen, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams across the organization.

This position is HYBRID- 3 days/week onsite REQUIRED.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple complex projects within the Department of Anesthesia, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to established standards.
  • Serve as a dedicated project management resource for Anesthesia leadership, assisting with project prioritization and coordination.
  • Support critical initiatives such as:
    • Development and implementation of a tracking system for all projects within the Department of Anesthesia.
    • Implementing new clinical workflows and operations.
    • Coordinating with internal and external project managers on cross-departmental initiatives, including technology projects.
    • Assisting in project management for the Vice Chairs including Clinical Operations, Finance and Strategy, Quality and Safety, Education and Inclusion.
  • Facilitate problem-solving and decision-making to ensure project success, working under minimal supervision.
  • Establish and maintain continuous communication with project stakeholders, including department leadership, executive sponsors, and project teams.
  • Track and manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables, while identifying innovative solutions to project challenges.
  • Develop and implement project management methodologies and best practices for the department.
  • Provide clear and concise progress reports and updates to leadership teams.
  • This resource will be 100% dedicated to projects in the Department of Anesthesia and will work closely with the Department’s leadership team regarding project prioritization.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated 3+ years experience managing Healthcare projects. Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously. Proven experience working with diverse functional and technical teams.
  2. Ability to drive change and lead process improvements in a healthcare setting.
  3. Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  4. PMP (Project Management Professional) certification required within one year of hire.
  5. Strong knowledge of Project Management methodologies and best practices. Goal orientation and action-focused, pragmatic and self-disciplined, good at project planning, organizing, communication, team motivation and delegation. Process orientation with strong strategic planning skills and creativity. Strong problem-solving skills and inherent decision-making ability. Strong dedication to deliver quality customer service in a timely manner. Good human relations, diplomacy, and oral/written communications skills in technical and non-technical areas.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Reviews and determines staffing needs, job posting requirements, salary guidelines, and labor agreement interpretations for exempt and non-exempt staff in one or more functional department of the University.
  2. Manages the administrative support needs for exempt and nonexempt staff and provides recommendations, improvements, solutions and assistance as needed.
  3. Manages and monitors technology needs, conducts inventory, and system requirements for the assigned departments.
  4. Develops and prepares budgets, financial forecasts, and financial analyses and the actual vs. budgeted performance reports for the departments.
  5. Manages the use of facilities in one or more departments including office space, work stations, equipment, and office supplies.
  6. Manages administrative support for activities of one or more departments to ensure timely completion of projects.
  7. Manages and coordinates training sessions for assigned departments when new policies or practices are adopted.
  8. Ensures compliance with University and federal regulations as they apply to the assigned departments.
  9. Identifies, plans, and develops administrative policies for the assigned departments.
  10. Assists in reviewing and implements University and departmental policies as they pertain to the administrative functions of the assigned department.
  11. Assesses and makes recommendations regarding staff development and staffing levels.
  12. Monitors, develops, plans, and executes systematic research on user requirements through such mechanisms as surveys, interviews, focus groups and competitive analysis.
  13. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
  14. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range: $68,000.00 - $120,500.00
