Description
The Project manager supports Hampton University’s Governmental Relations and Public Policy agenda by coordinating legislative projects, managing advocacy initiatives, developing research materials, and strengthening engagement with policymakers. The role also advances the University’s research mission by assisting with AI-related proposal development and supporting faculty seeking competitive federal funding.
Examples of Duties
Project Planning and Advocacy Coordination
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinate efforts across academic units, research centers, and leadership.
Legislative and Regulatory Monitoring
- Track federal and state legislation impacting higher education and research
- Prepare briefing materials for administrators and faculty experts.
Government Relations and External Engagement
- Serve as a liaison with elected officials, agencies, and associations
- Support university representation at hearings and policy meetings.
Research Support and AI Proposal Development
- Assist faculty with AI related grant proposals and compliance documents
- Translate technical research concepts into policy-relevant materials
Documentation and Reporting
- Produce Reports, presentations, testimony, and comment letters
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards
Stakeholder and Event Management
- Support planning legislative visits, advocacy days, and research showcases.
- Facilitate engagement among faculty, students, and external partners.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Typical Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in public policy, public administration, political science, research administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in project management within a university, government, research, or nonprofit environment.
- Strong analytical, policy research, and writing skills, with the ability to prepare reports, briefings, and presentations.
- Experience working with legislators, government agencies, or higher-education organizations, including supporting research proposals or policy initiatives.
