Job Description

CU Denver TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) helps first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities reach their full potential and achieve academic success. We are a supportive academic community committed to student excellence and achievement. Student success is at the center of everything we do.

The program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and keeps them motivated as they work toward the successful completion of their degrees. The goal of TRIO SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.

This position will be responsible for assisting in complete application processing including: providing support for front office operations, events, and logistics management and fiscal support. Handle all administrative aspects of the day-to-day operations of the McNair and TRIO SSS programs, including preparing and coordinating materials, meeting planning and coordination, providing onsite support for events, support with purchasing orders, invoices and honorariums, support in budget management and handling arrangements to the programs' administration as needed. Support the Project Director in maintaining departmental employee's personnel records, time records, hiring and separation records.

What you will do:

  • Provide prompt and friendly assistance to all office visitors
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of SSS and McNair programs to effectively respond to inquiries regarding available program services
  • Assist Project Director with budget management support, forecasting, expense reporting, and documentation.
  • Purchase office supplies and computing equipment through CU Marketplace and manage office inventory
  • Provide administrative duties, including answering phone calls, directing visitors, scheduling appointments; help process program applications, and closing out student files.
  • Stay informed of current federal and institutional rules and regulations, eligibility requirements, and policies to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain budgetary related records in accordance with University and federal standards.
  • Assist with processing and maintaining personnel documents, including bi-weekly payroll for student staff, and assist with student staff training.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Three (3) years of professional level, general clerical experience. Substitution: A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business administration, organizational leadership, management, higher education administration, public administration / public policy, etc. may be substituted for the above minimum qualification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a federal TRIO program
  • Experience in higher education assisting diverse students in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in office, budget, and personnel management.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing outstanding customer service skills.

  • Ability to perform duties independently without guidance and direction from other professionals.
  • Ability to articulate the University's mission and the importance of the strategic plan

Conditions of Employment

Grant Funded – This position is currently only funded for up to 5 years through August 31, 2030. If additional funding is granted, the position may be extended but not guaranteed. Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required. This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements

The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at $25,428 - $26,000 (prorated for 50%). The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This position is eligible for overtime compensation. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
