Job Summary
Supervised by the Department Specialist, the Department Chair, and the ASM supports the Department of Psychology in the area of administrative assistance to the 76 faculty; the Department Specialist, and the Department Chair in the execution of duties necessary to the operation of all academic programs. Assist the Department Specialist in a department office of approximately 26 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 3 FERP, and 47 lecturers; learns to support and serves as one of the resources for information regarding Department policy and practice for faculty, students, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Receives visitors and telephone calls, as one of two individuals that serves as first point-of-contact for the Psychology Department. Provides information as appropriate and directs inquiries. Maintains appearance of offices and posted materials.
- Assists Dept Coordinator by inputting and reproducing instructional materials, correspondence, minutes, reports and forms. Tracks the disposition of correspondence, expenditures, and forms. Provides support to faculty in the Department.
- Assists three Master's program advisors two MA and one MS.
- Serves as department mail clerk, maintains office, and photocopier supplies.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,565 (Step 1) - $5,092 (Step 19) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and vendors, and possesses a strong working knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices within an academic environment. They can perform efficiently and accurately in a fast‑paced, sometimes noisy setting that requires independent judgment, attention to detail, and speed. Proficiency with Windows-based systems is essential, including Word, WordPress, Adobe Acrobat Pro, email, spreadsheets, databases, Ad Astra, and CMS for PC. Additionally, the ideal candidate is skilled at developing and delivering essential information clearly and effectively through both written and oral communication.

Education and Experience
- Equivalent to three years of administrative support experience required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
