Salary: $2,075.12/CAH - $2,322.27/CAH (Pay rate is $68.27 - $76.41 per hour for initial placement.)

Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Counselor, Mental Health with Specialization on LGBTQ+ Community, 14-17.5 hrs/wk, starting in the Spring/ Fall 2025 Semester at Chabot College.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide mental health short term and crisis counseling services to a diverse student population through direct contact with students individually, in groups, in initial screenings and through walk-in counseling;
  2. Provide groups and workshops that support and engage the LGBTQ+ student population on campus;
  3. Provide crisis assessment and emergency response for students and the campus community;
  4. Maintain a caseload of 10 to 12 students;
  5. Maintain clinical records and documentation as appropriate;
  6. Provide referral services as needed to students, faculty, and staff in need of psychological and counseling resources, beyond those offered on campus;
  7. Maintain collaborative relationships with college faculty, staff and administrators;
  8. Attend mental health clinical meetings and other student service meetings and events when appropriate;
  9. Facilitate mental health support groups for students on campus;
  10. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent

(NOTE: A bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Selection Process

Candidates who most closely meet the stated minimum qualifications and desirable qualifications - knowledge, skills and attributes, will be invited to a committee interview. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee an interview. Selected candidates will be required to demonstrate their job-related skills, including a counseling demonstration, and may also be asked to provide supplemental application materials such as, evidence of licensure.

Desirable Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Attributes)

  1. Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker or Psychologist;
  2. Experience working with and practicing cultural humility to provide psychological services to a diverse group of students, including experience working with the LGBTQ+ community;
  3. Experience in providing psychological services, group facilitation, and/or counseling in an educational institution;
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with affinity groups on campus;
  5. Experience in crisis assessment and intervention;
  6. Commitment to community college goals/objectives in providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students;
  7. Personal qualities to work effectively within a multicultural environment;
  8. Awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests;
  9. Demonstrate a commitment to professional development;
  10. Knowledge of community health and social service resources and experience making appropriate referrals;
  11. Knowledge and ability to consult effectively with the Mental Health Team, faculty, staff, and administrators regarding students as needed;
  12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish are desired;
  13. Desired flexibility in schedule; availability for evenings and/or Fridays is a plus.
