PT-Truck Driver Training Instructional Staff
Instructor, Truck Driver Training, provides accessible, quality learning experiences within the classroom, laboratory, clinical, and/or distance learning settings; facilitates the learning process to help students be successful; provides accurate, quality academic and career advisement for students; seeks professional development opportunities to implement best practices in teaching within their discipline area; maintains office hours according to institutional policy; completes required course assessments and documentation in an accurate and timely manner; attends college meetings, student activities, institutional functions; and contributes to the development of curriculum courses and programs. The Truck Driver Training program teaches proper driving procedures, safe driver responsibility, commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, and the basic principles and practices for operating commercial vehicles. The program also administers CDL (commercial driver's license) testing to the students. Instructors will provide instruction in motor vehicle laws and regulations, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, defensive driving, freight handling, security, and fire protection. Instructors will use highway driving, training range exercises, and classroom lectures to develop the student's knowledge and skills.
- Plan and participate in the instruction of classes for the program; prepare supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
- Prepare objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance policies and course syllabus to be distributed at first class meeting; select textbooks; prepare, proctor and grade tests; prepare instructional materials and aids.
- Provide supervisor with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each class on time; turn in reports, final grades, and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as required; administer student evaluations each term; develop new courses in field as required.
- Assist in evaluating activities and operations of assigned program; ensure that operations meet the college's goals and the student population's needs.
- Maintain a lab area that is safe and clean.
- Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
- Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Requires the possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Commercial driver's license, class A. Maintain at least one-year DOT (Department of Transportation) physical. Willingness to work irregular hours including nights and weekends. Commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept. Five years of experience in driving a tractor trailer truck required. Experience in teaching and/or counseling students at a post-secondary level is preferred.
