Job Summary:
The Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a motivated individual who is seeking to gain foundational experience in the medical field, such as someone taking a gap year prior to medical school or similar clinical program. While there may be opportunities to assist in clinical and academic research, the primary focus of this role is supporting quality, patient safety, and patient outcomes. You will serve as the lead for the collection of patient reported outcomes (PROs) at Steadman Hawkins Inverness Clinic and provide oversight for program volunteers, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professional clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical PRO Collection
- Collect patient reported outcomes (PROs) directly from patients in clinic at Steadman Hawkins using provided iPads.
- Communicate directly with patients regarding survey completions, and outstanding forms for the department patient-reported outcomes (PROs) program to ensure data integrity.
- Manage and troubleshoot mobile devices (iPads) used for on-site patient-reported outcomes surveys.
- Coordinate and supervise volunteers when present to ensure consistent data collection and patient assistance.
- Quality Improvement & Data Support
- Update patient case forms with procedure related information to maintain accurate clinical records.
- Attend weekly team meetings to provide any project updates.
- Visualize data and create reports for clinical and administrative use, helping to track progress.
- Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Clinical & Academic Research Assistance
- Support clinical trials and academic research as opportunities arise
- Assist in the preparation of publications, presentations, and conference materials.
Work Location:
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in various UCHealth and CU Medicine clinics around the Denver Metropolitan area.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in any field
A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in science or health related field
- Clinical research or related experience
- Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data analysis tools
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to work onsite at the UCHealth Steadman Hawkins Inverness clinic. This position may be required to travel to several clinic locations within the Denver Metropolitan area.
