Research Assistant

Develops research projects and is responsible for scientific design, conduct and interpretation, presenting results and publishing manuscripts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with laboratory experiments, including sample preparation, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting).
• Collect, record, and organize experimental data accurately.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure cleanliness and safety of the work environment.
• Perform literature reviews and assist in preparing reports or presentations.
• Attend lab meetings and participate in discussions related to research progress.
• Follow all institutional safety and compliance protocols.

This position may be involved with problems requiring modifications of scientific methods. This position is required to efficiently manage several research coordinators and associates as well as to allocate resources to address the needs of ongoing clinical trials.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Office environment. Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals). Seldom: Exposure to animals.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.

Work Schedule Summary: Temporary position, typically lasting 6 months. Hours ideally 40 hours/week, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm as needed, depending on lab needs.
