Research Associate in AI (Social Care)

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join Open Lab, a world-leading Human-Computer Interaction research group, based in the School of Computing at Newcastle University. The research assistant / associate will report to Prof. David Kirk (Professor of Human-Centred Design).

You will principally support the design and delivery and evaluation of training materials to support VCSE partners working in the Health and Social Care sector. The training will support their understanding and use of AI within their industry, supporting their organisations towards best practice for working with emerging intelligent and data-infused technologies. The project is funded by the EPSRC Northern Health Futures (NortHFutures) project, which is a regional hub for supporting innovation in health and care technologies. This funded project will involve the successful candidate in developing a combination of online and face-to-face learning materials, the advertisement (with support) and recruitment for cohorts of participants to engage in the learning activities and the subsequent delivery and evaluation of training sessions. There will also be a requirement to produce documentation of engagement, impact and evaluation from the training delivered with partner organisations. There is also opportunity within this role to help further support project work within Open Lab that is exploring the role of AI in VCSE partner engagements.

This position is available on a part-time (3 days per week / 0.6 FTE), fixed-term basis, to start immediately for 6 months.

As part of our commitment to career development for research colleagues, the University has developed 3 levels of research role profiles. These profiles set out firstly the generic competences and responsibilities expected of role holders at each level and secondly the general qualifications and experiences needed for entry at a particular level.

For all informal enquiries, please contact Professor David Kirk at david.kirk@newcastle.ac.uk.
