Research Associate
Position Summary
The School of Nursing is looking to hire a full-time Research Associate to serve as an interviewer and recruiter on two of Dr. Walter Bockting’s NIH-funded studies focused on: 1) the role of social connectedness in the health and longevity of sexual and racial/ethnic minorities, and 2) the health-related quality of life and wellbeing for individuals managing chronic conditions after genital reconstructive surgery.
Specifically, the incumbent will be tasked with supporting participant recruitment (in-person and online) throughout New York City, scheduling study visits, conducting qualitative and quantitative interviews, facilitating the provision of saliva samples, and conducting qualitative analysis of interview transcripts. The incumbent will also be asked to assist with protocol and instrument development, and dissemination to scientific audiences and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with participant recruitment through in-person outreach and online recruitment campaigns;
- Assisting with participant screening, enrollment, and study visit scheduling;
- Assisting with qualitative and quantitative data collection, cleaning, and preparation, in-person or online;
- Facilitating remote provision of participants’ saliva samples
- Assisting with participant saliva sample collection during study visits;
- Assisting with coding and analysis of qualitative research data;
- Interface with data entry and storage systems;
- Assisting with manuscript preparation and submissions;
- Assisting with administrative tasks;
- Attending all research related meetings;
- Working closely with investigators and study staff; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
This is a grant funded position. Continued employment is based on availability of funding.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.
Prior experience in assisting with scientific research.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and familiarity with sexual and racial/ethnic minority communities.
Previous experience conducting qualitative interviews and coding interview transcripts
Previous experience with qua research.
Computer fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with software programs for qualitative data analysis (e.g., Dedoose).
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work well in a team.
Statistical and database management experience.
At least one year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
