The Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department (CBD) at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to studying biological systems using computational methods. Faculty and researchers collaborate across fields such as computer science, biology, and statistics to tackle complex biological questions. Their work spans diverse areas including genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational neuroscience, driving innovation at the intersection of computation and life sciences.
CBD is seeking a Research Associate to assist in the development and execution of research projects including experiment design, analysis of data collected, and writing up experiment results.
Core Responsibilities:
- Working with large-scale biological data, developing; implementing algorithms, computational tools, or frameworks
- Uses a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect, and record results or observations.
- Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures. Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination, or presentation; writes technical reports. May build and validate quantitative models.
- Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
- May program software in support of job functions. Attends project meetings.
- Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience required.
- Strong programming skills required.
- Research, data collection, and analysis experience.
- Strong problem solving, reasoning, analytical and communication skills.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
