Research Associate, Temporary
The position is funded by a National Science Foundation grant that aims at studying how exposure to disease risk affects the physiology and reproductive investment of uninfected animals, as well as their own responses upon infection. The researcher will contribute to completion of the grant’s aims, and will be particularly focused on data management, data analysis, and writing. This is a short-term position (maximum three months) and can be remote in California.
Responsibilities:
- Manuscript and Report Development: Lead the writing of peer-reviewed manuscripts based on existing experimental data. Draft progress reports and related documentation for submission to the NSF and other stakeholders.
- Data Analysis and Research Execution: Independently manage and analyze biological and behavioral datasets aligned with the grant’s aims. Synthesize findings and contribute to interpretation and visualization of results.
- Collaboration and Project Support: Collaborate closely with the principal investigator (PI) to ensure timely execution of project milestones. Coordinate with undergraduate student researchers to gather input and support shared goals. Facilitate project-related meetings and assist in tracking progress toward deliverables. Work closely with the lead faculty and undergraduate students involved in the project, including organizing meetings as needed to obtain information necessary to the completion of the projects.
- Scholarly Dissemination: May contribute to or present findings at academic conferences, workshops, or internal symposia.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD, or equivalent degree in Biology or similar fields.
- Demonstrated expertise in manuscript preparation and data curation and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- A strong background in neuroendocrinology and research methods used in this field.
- Experience mentoring or collaborating with undergraduate students.
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, or Python-based tools).
- Prior experience managing or contributing to NSF-funded research projects.
