James Cook University is seeking a passionate and driven Research Fellow to join our Central Queensland Centre for Rural and Remote Health. This exciting role contributes to a nationally funded research program focused on improving bowel cancer screening, early detection, and treatment in rural and remote communities—particularly among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and support research activities within a high-impact cancer prevention project.
- Co-design culturally appropriate screening models with Indigenous and rural communities.
- Collaborate with health services, clinicians, and community stakeholders.
- Publish research, develop knowledge translation materials, and present findings.
- Contribute to grant applications and supervise students and research assistants.
- Travel regularly to field sites across Central Queensland.
What You’ll Bring
- PhD in public health, epidemiology, rural health, Indigenous health, or related field.
- Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Strong mixed-method research skills and familiarity with co-design methodologies.
- Proven publication record and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of bowel cancer screening programs or health system navigation.
- Experience in health services or implementation research.
