Research Professional II, Electrical and Computer Engineering (part-Time)
Position Highlights
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Arizona is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Research Professional with background in AI and machine learning, including application of generative adversarial and diffusion models for synthesis of 5G/6G coverage maps, channel characterization, medical imaging and RF signal synthesis.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Marwan Krunz, Director of the Wireless Communications and Networking (WICON) Lab, at the University of Arizona. The laboratory is actively involved in various projects related to wireless communications, networking, and security, with particular emphasis on resource allocation strategies, distributed protocol design, and security.
The incumbent will contribute to various projects on 5G and 6/G systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and design research on generative AI /Machine Learning, including application of generative adversarial and diffusion models for synthesis of 5G/6G coverage maps, channel characterization, medical imaging, and RF signal synthesis.
- Design variational autoencoder models for RF signal classification and inference.
- Design GANs and other generative AI models for synthesis of cancer-cell images and gene expression profiles in biomedical and cancer research.
- Study new reinforcement learning and DQN designs for beam management in mobile systems.
- Investigate AI models for spectrum sharing over unlicensed and licensed bands.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of AI and ML techniques, including but not limited to GANs, Autoencoders, and diffusion models.
- Strong analysis skills, research and technical writing skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
- Skill in effectively communicating research results.
- Knowledge of computer language such as Write C#, R, or Python, Gitlab.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
- Three years of relevant work experience or combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
