Job Description Summary
A Research Specialist A is sought to work in the Penn Center for Brain Injury and Repair to contribute to research in the field of neurotrauma. Specifically, the research seeks to advance understanding of the acute and chronic outcomes of traumatic brain injury including via preclinical modeling and assessment of histological outcomes.
Job Description
A Research Specialist A is sought to work in the Penn Center for Brain Injury and Repair to contribute to research in the field of neurotrauma. Specifically, the research seeks to advance understanding of the acute and chronic outcomes of traumatic brain injury including via preclinical modeling and assessment of histological outcomes. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives in the field of neurotrauma and neuroscience using in vivo animal TBI models. Assists in performing laboratory experiments using rodent and swine tissue. Other tasks include maintenance of logs and lab reports, biological specimen catalogs and assistance in scheduling experiments. Bench experiments include animal handling, tissue processing, histology, immunhistochemistry and biochemical assays. Daily management of laboratory equipment, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables. Closely collaborates with senior lab members and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental work set ups in accordance with established protocols. Handle controlled substances such as pharmaceutical, radiological or hazardous materials; Have access to sensitive data related to research projects and grants such as intellectual property.
This position is contingent on funding.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferably in Neuroscience, Bioengineering or closely related field and 0-1 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience with tissue processing and histology preferred. Candidate should be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills. Attention to detail, organizational skills, reliability and the ability to work independently are important. Teamwork, professionalism, and the willingness to manage and work cooperatively with others are a crucial part of this position. Some laboratory experience preferred.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
