Job Description Summary

The Research Specialist will perform biophysical experiments using a state-of-the-art microscope system integrated with laser tweezers technology. The position focuses on quantitative single-molecule measurements and mechanical manipulation of biomolecular complexes to investigate fundamental biological processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the execution and interpretation of experiments and will maintain and improve the laboratory instrumentation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct optical trapping experiments using an ultrafast force-clamp system.
  • Prepare samples, calibrate the optical instrumentation, collecting high-resolution data, and performing quantitative data analysis.
  • Maintain, update and supervise microscope systems, train new users.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize the laser tweezers system, developing new experimental protocols, and collaborating with team members to integrate results into broader research goals.
  • Manage laboratory organization, order supplies.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation.
  • Present research findings at group meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field and 3-5 years previous laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's Degree strongly preferred.

Demonstrate expertise in vitro reconstruction experiments and experience with advanced experimental instrumentation, such as optical systems, biophysical instruments, or high-resolution microscopy. Prior experience with custom-built instruments and precision optical alignment is highly preferred.

Experience with data acquisition and analysis, including familiarity with programming or scripting for data processing, is highly desirable.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Strong communication skills in both oral presentations and scientific writing are essential.

This position is contingent upon continued funding.

Pay Range: $57,500.00 - $78,480.95 Annual Rate
