Research Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Specialist who is interested to join our team (https://neuroscience.jhu.edu/research/faculty/129), which works on the analysis of the auditory system in mice. The Research Specialist will participate in lab organizational activities and support other laboratory members in their experimental work. She/he will be working in a team that includes other technicians, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Our laboratory investigates the mechanisms of sound perception and how defects in this process cause hearing loss. We use a wide spectrum of techniques (molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, mouse genetics, histology, imaging, omics studies) to study sensory epithelia of the inner ear and the neurons that transmit sound information from the ear to the brain. We also develop gene transfer methods for the inner ear to treat genetic forms of hearing loss. Previous expertise in auditory research is not required.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Help with mouse colony maintenance and genotyping.
- Help laboratory members with experiments. The scope of work will depend on the expertise of the applicant and willingness to learn new techniques.
- Plan and run sets of experiments after discussions with investigator.
- Evaluates and interprets results from experiments using specialized knowledge.
- Performs other various laboratory tasks as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- One year laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with mouse breeding's, other expertise such in molecular biology or histology is a plus but not required since we will provide training.

Starting Salary Range: $17.11 - $29.90 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)
