Applications are open for one (1) Research Studentship(s), within the framework of project/R&D institution AI-Pack-Bot: Artificial Intelligence for collaborative Robotic packing of open-category heterogeneous objects /Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica, (14935 – LISBOA2030-FEDER-00854700), financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC) and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through COMPETE – “Programa Operacional Fatores de Competitividade (POFC) under the Partnership Agreement LISBOA2030
Workplan
The main objective is to develop the learning-based control algorithms for the bimanual platform Baxter and Franka, in order to grasp fragile objects in the context of packing grocery items.
Duration
The research fellowship will have the duration of 6 months, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum of 24 months. It’s expected to begin in September of 2026.

Benefits
Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/fct-atualizou-o-valor-das-bolsas-para-2026/), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 1359,64, being the payment by Wire Transfer.

Selection process
Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: Curriculum evaluation, previous experience on learning-based grasping for robots, with the respective weight of 50% for the curriculum and 50% for the previous experience on learning-based grasping.
Composition of the selection Jury: Prof. José Santos-Victor, Prof. Alexandre Bernardino and Dr. Plinio Moreno López
Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by email.
Deadlines and procedures of complaint and appeal. A complaint may be lodged from the final decision within 15 working days, or an appeal to the Executive Board of IST-ID within 30 working days, both counted from the respective notification
