Duties & Responsibilities
- Sets up laboratory research following detailed instructions created by research staff to support the Experimental Petrology group. Conducts and supports laboratory experiments by collecting data from high pressure-temperature equipment used to simulate conditions in the interior of a planet, working with senior researchers with strict protocols.
- Helps support researchers in developing and adapting procedures and techniques to fit specific experiment requirements.
- Operates high pressure-temperature equipment following set instructions. Informs researcher when problems occur with any instruments or apparatuses used. Assists with troubleshooting and maintenance of the equipment under supervision from the researcher as needed.
- Maintains logs of data collected from experiments and files them into the group's database. Presents findings to the team through group meetings, walking through errors, learning from the analysis compiled from data collected, and becoming familiar with the research.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate piston-cylinder equipment, gas-mixing furnace, and all accessory equipment required for sample preparation.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience independently operating piston-cylinder apparatus.
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Geosciences.
- Experience working in an Experimental Petrology laboratory
