Job Summary: The Division of Biomedical Informatics, Department of Internal Medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky is seeking applicants for a tenure track, Assistant Professor rank Regular Title Series, full time (12 month) position. We seek individuals with a dynamic, productive research agenda that focuses on health and biomedical informatics and technologies. The Division of Biomedical Informatics is a highly productive, collegial, and collaborative research and training department in the College of Medicine. This is an instrumental position in building the division and growing our team and range of expertise. We welcome applications in one or more of the following areas:

  • Bioinformatics, computational biology
  • Precision medicine using integrated data resources such as electronic health records electronic pathology reports, clinical trials, and next generation sequencing
  • Data science and augmented intelligence (AI) for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data (clinical texts, web media, imaging, signal, and sensory data)
  • Clinical informatics, information systems, clinical decision support
Faculty members will be expected to conduct innovative, rigorous, grant funded research and engage in scholarly activities (peer reviewed publications, presentations, etc.). Faculty members also will contribute to research training of UK graduate students and postdoctoral scholars associated with the Division of Biomedical Informatics, including mentorship programs, courses, workshops, and supervised research. Faculty members also are expected to engage in broader research and training initiatives across the University of Kentucky. These initiatives include grant consultation and review, a dynamic speaker series and other enriching events like pilot project competitions, and outreach to the lay public. Several Centers at the University of Kentucky support informatics related research, including the NCI designated Comprehensive Markey Cancer Center, NIH supported Center for Clinical and Translational Science, the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, the UK Institute for Biomedical Informatics, the Barnstable Brown Diabetes and Obesity Center, and the NIA supported Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. The Division of Biomedical Informatics is a unique department with a multidisciplinary faculty positioned for opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The Biomedical Informatics Division is embarking on a period of major expansion within the University. The University is committed to the development of biomedical informatics and has made this area a priority. Efforts focused on the Biomedical Informatics expansion will create direction for the academic program and stimulate research across the campus, building relationships and infrastructure for the success of this program.
